Thank Yous

The last element that I designed for the Dina Shower, that I previously posted about, the thank you cards.

I’ve been updating my design website with new work that I haven’t had the chance to put up until now. You can check them out here.

Another thrift store find, this contact paper is from 1965 and it can be used to label anything from “poison” to “pork”.

Dog

I crocheted this dog from a pattern in a Japanese crafting book. If you haven’t looked through a Japanese crafting book, you should. And be ready for cuteness overload! I became obsessed with these craft books years ago and my collection has grown steadily. I’ve made more than a few items from these books but the one downside is they are almost all in in Japanese. I don’t happen to read Japanese but luckily for me crochet patterns are universal and I can usually follow those without much problem. It is a little taxing on the brain, trying to decipher which pattern is for which part of the doll but in the end it works out.

I’ve gotten my books from a variety of places, mostly Japanese bookstores. Andrew used to live in Chicago and, during one of my visits, I stocked up at Mitsuwa. In NYC, my favorite Japanese bookstore is Kinokuniya, which is not only great for books but movies as well.

A few online sources that I’ve found useful are Crafting Japanese, YesAsia, and Amazon: Japan.

Here is the book that I got this dog pattern from: ISBN-10: 9784774750712

Premiere Issues

“At heart, Premiere Issues is still a carefully curated and presented personal collection. We are still fascinated by the opening statements written by editors and publishers in the launch issue — amazed at the spirit of their voices and the wholehearted outpouring of their ideas and energy to create their vision.”

I stumbled upon this site the other day and really enjoyed looking through the archive. It’s interesting to see how the covers have evolved throughout the years.

Some personal favorites:

Dwell (notice how small the logo is, nowadays it’s ginormous)

Flaunt

GOOD (I love their logo)

Jane (Remember when women’s magazine covers looked like this?)

Radar (Hilarious cover image)

Raygun

Check out the site here.

Winter

Is anyone else ready for winter to be done? In the past, I’ve never actually minded winter that much. But this year both Andrew and I agree that winter has worn out its welcome. The cold and snow is really getting on my nerves. Personally, I think winter should officially end the day after Christmas. Or we can draw it out to the New Year, IF necessary. I’m tired of being cold and I’m tired of having anxiety driving to work. Sorry, I just had to vent there for a second. I’ll just dream of the time when our porch looked like this:

And not this:

Boys’ Life

I’ve mentioned before all the cool things you can find in the thrift stores of Ohio. I’ve been on a lookout lately for old magazines. Here are some that I found, old issues of Boys’ Life from the 60’s.

Babies

Andrew and I helped plan and design a baby shower this month. Congrats to Maria and PJ! They will be welcoming their first baby, Layla, in March.

Pads of paper of the games and raffle.

Games and raffle instructions.

Seating card and party favor.

Little hidden bird.

Close up of party favor. The eggs are M&M Premiums.

Seating card and party favor (with lid on for guests to take home).

Sewn wax paper bags for cookies.

Cookies for the guests to take home. Centerpieces were constructed by myself, Maria, PJ and Mariela. We used pre-made wooden birdhouses and, with heavy pieces of wire, attached them to small pieces of driftwood. The flowers were added by my mom and Maria.

Very exciting news!! Yesterday, our wedding was featured on two of my favorite blogs: Design*Sponge and Brooklyn Bride. I love both of these sites and have been following them for inspiration for awhile now.

Design*Sponge I’ve read since 2004 or 2005 and am continually impressed with Grace’s fresh outlook and impeccable sense of style. Brooklyn Bride I started reading right after we decided to get married. I’d never planned a wedding before and Vané had created the ultimate guide for cool wedding stuff. Even if you aren’t planning a wedding, it’s a great resource for some great photographers, designers, calligraphers and other not-necesarally-always-wedding stuff.

You can go directly to the posts here (Design*Sponge), here (Brooklyn Bride: Part 1), and here (Brooklyn Bride: Part 2).

Thanks to both of these talented ladies!
